The Ark-La-Tex Agricultural Council resulted from an intensive study completed in 1970 by local agricultural leaders. It was recommended that an agricultural-related council be formed and presented to the Board of Directors of the State Fair of Louisiana.
This group was to consist of prominent and influential citizens who expressed an interest in the development and growth of agriculture throughout the area. This group of interested and dedicated citizens began work, and plans for their organization of the Agricultural Council began to take shape. In December of 1970, the Ark-La-Tex Agricultural Council began its operation. The Ag Council, in cooperation with area agencies and associations, will strive to accomplish the following objectives:
(1) Stimulate, promote and encourage the business of producing, handling, and marketing agricultural products, including livestock and the products of livestock: to improve the results of such agri-business by scientific, efficient, and economically sound methods and practices.
(2) To promote agriculture by various means and protect the interest of those engaged therein.
(3) Develop agricultural programs, projects and promotions to further the welfare of the State Fair of Louisiana.
(4) Assist in the promotion of the annual State Fair of Louisiana Junior Livestock Auction and otherwise provide for the administrative functions, rules and regulations governing the same.
The Council is not formed for the political or partisan purposes or for the pecuniary profit. It shall not sponsor nor permit in its meetings any advertising or partisan politics.
Council leadership will be compromised of a governing body known as the Board of Directors consisting of 12 members. The officers of the council consist of the Chairman, Vice Chairman and Executive Director and are elected from this 12 member group. Special meetings of the membership will be called from time to time to discuss and implement certain projects and objectives of the council.
Agriculture will continue to have a major impact on the economic potential throughout our trade area. For this reason and because the Ark-La-Tex Agricultural Council can be of real service to you individually and as a group, membership is a must.
